Welcome to the ScriptBot project page
This site:
The ScriptBot project page is designed to offer a place to be a part of the ScriptBot community and help further the project. This website contains links to releases (downloads) as well as a plugin-gallery containing user built and submitted plugins. Also provided is a place where the original authors have given some hints, tips and tricks to programming with ScriptBot and creating/managing plugins. Generated documentation provides an easy way to figure specific functions of ScriptBot and other resources supplied at runtime.
About ScriptBot:
Originally a side-project, ScriptBot was picked up by a member of Mozilla's IRC server and pushed into his subversion repository. The ScriptBot project itself is designed to create an IRC bot that piggy-backs on Java, but uses the power of JavaScript for things such as plugins and other functionality. The bot offers a flexible API which allows the bot to be used out-of-the-box, or to easily add more features.
Not a programmer? Adding features is easy. Just download plugins offering the functionality you wish the bot to have, and save them into the plugin folder inside the bot's directory. Then edit the simple configuration file to indclude the names of the new plugin files.
If you are a programmer, explore the possiblities and make new features to suit your channel and wants. Please contribute back to our project by helping out with code, or contributing new useful plugins to our plugin-gallery. Plugins do not need to be licensed under the same license as the bot itself.* At the very least, if you find bugs, please report them here: http://theoks.net/bugs/
* If we find a plugin which would be useful as a default plugin, we'll contact the author before making a similar one.
If you'd like more information on the JAR-utilites used in ScriptBot, PircBot (the Java part powering our bot) can be found at www.jibble.org or you can chat with those folks at irc.freenode.net/#jibble[ext] (http://www.freenode.net). Information can be found on Rhino at their project page: http://www.mozilla.org/rhino/, and you can ask questions on their Google Group.
ScriptBot requires Java to be installed to run. Please visit www.java.com[ext] to install it for your system. Mac users should already have Java installed, go to Software Update and check for updates to make sure you have the latest version.
About the authors:
We're just normal people with anywhere from a small to great interest in programming. We live anywhere from the United States to Europe. Most of us hang out in irc://theoks.net/#bots[ext], and a few of us in #bots-test. We'd be happy to talk about ScriptBot or if the channel is slow, about life the universe, and everything.
